Just for Phiir

Okay, for those of you who are curious this is Epiaa just before the Wrath of the Lich King release. She is in the Argent Dawn leggings and carrying the crystal shield with the coil fang mace. This was my Christmas gift from my husband and I just adore having her on my desk.

These are scarves knitted for a friend's daughters. The black one is made with a 100% wool yarn and a carry along yarn by Trendsetters in gold, gray, and white. The Soft pastel colored one is made from a 55% wool 45% silk yarn custom dyed, the stitch used is a moss stitch.

Same friend wanted some new soft sweaters for her grandsons and a lovely (Pink Lemonade is the yarns color)hooded sweater for her soon to be born granddaughter. the final piece for her family is the shawl in forest colors for her daughter. It is big enough to wrap herself and the new baby in as she runs around in the cold.

Now, on to the doggie sweaters. These are just a few of the sweaters I knitted up this winter. The first is for my brother's dog (Jenny) who is a daschound and I had a great deal of fun making it for her. The second is Heya's sweater in black angora and a faux fur trim with sparkles I made the same one is a smaller size for a friend's dog named Baby Girl. The striped one is in Noro Kureyon and was made for Tommy (a black mini schnauzer)who comes to visit with the propane delivery guy.

This final picture is a prayer shawl made for a friend's Mother. It is very soft and warm. This was made from Caron Soft Touch and the fringe is in the same yarn with two similar colors mixed into the fringe for some depth.

Also made but not pictured are:
Scarf for my darling daughter in the same lovely 45% silk 55% wool as the pastel scarf above but in more of a coral and bright green colors.

Socks, Purple pair for Terry J. Lynn (the author who is on my friends list) Socks, 100% alpaca in sandalwood for a friend in New Mexico, Socks, in green and gray not claimed yet, socks in Noro Kureyon sock yarn with matching baby booties (for my daughter and grand daughter) Baby sweater for Princess Sofie, Baby sweater set with hat and socks for Princess Sofie.

Meanwhile, not only am I busy with the knitting and with the Guild on Moon Guard, but I am still reading a book a day (right now a lot of re reads), enjoying my husband's company and relaxing a little. I hope all of you had a wonderful New year.

Snow Storms

Wow! Snow this early and so much oh dear. If you need a nice warm scarf and hat check out the Galaxy line at www.scarvesforallreasons.com. We also have nice wool beanies and wool and silk scarves in lovely fall colors. We have nice merino wool cabled scarves and a lovely dark forest green cabled scarf.

Halloween is coming and we have pumpkin faux fur scarves, and several nice brown or black faux fur stoles.

Need warm socks? Try our sock section for a purple, or red socks.

We are at 3900 feet above sea level so we didn't get snow but, it rained here which is a very big deal as we have been in a drought for 7 to 10 years. Hopefully, this year will change that ... but, we haven't need airconditioning for 1 month, and my husband has the heater on already. We live in Arizona....but, not the Phoenix area.

Have a great weekend

Kingman Air Show 2006

What a lot of fun the Kingman Airshow was a kick. about 175 cars were there on Saturday for the show & shine. There was drag racing, jet truck, RC planes and jets, wing walker, precision sky jumpers, WWII airplanes and of course the 1960 Starliner. The car has been modified a lot and was done on the east coast about 20 years ago. We got it in April 2006 from and friend and have taken it on several hot rod runs. I made the fuzzy dice in the car from 100% mohair with crystal beads.

We were at the airshow all weekend so I finished making a pair of socks for My Granddaughter. I also finished at home 5 more colors of Mystical-Creation-Yarns scarves. Peaceful, Turtle, Temple, Bay Breeze, Russian Olive. I will be listing them later today.... I need to get mail and groceries today first.

Have a lovely week

Home again Home again jig a jig

It is so nice to be home again. This week should be a little quieter. Getting our 1960 Ford Starliner ready for the Kingman Air Show. I will be attending with my husband and knitting away in the corner. It is nice to be able to do something while he is busy with his cars.

We went to LA last week to view his 1951 Ford four door, and he has put the clip on the 53 kaiser manhattan. Yes, he is really car crazy. I make him making fuzzy dice for each of his vehicles from angora with semi precious gems as the dice spots. Expensive but, he is worth it.

Working still on more great colors from Mystical Creation Yarns. That will keep me busy for another 2 weeks. I hope you all have a nice October karen austin www.scarvesforallreasons.com

Traveling fools

Just when I think that we are going to stay home for a long while..... we up and travel. Now, most people don't get up at 3 a.m. and drive from Kingman AZ to Newport Beach California for a meeting regarding a hot rod, and then drive home again that day... but that's what my husband and I do regularly. So this week we have gone to Prescott AZ (2 hour drive one way) LA (16 hours round trip) into Kingman 2 times, and again to Prescott today. Next week is just as busy with several trips to Prescott, and Oct 7 thru 8th we will have our 1960 Starliner at the KIngman Airshow. That's where my husband shows his cars and I knit all the way there and back and during.

Finished a beautiful triangular shawl in silk, rayon and cotton called Pinata from Spin City and have started working again on the yarns from Mystical Creations Yarn. Have a wonderful weekend and October.

1635 Cannon Law

Being busy knitting I picked up the mail on Wednesday where much to my delight lots of yarn and ERIC FLINT's novel 1635 Cannon Law written with Andrew Dennis.

No spoilers allowed ... one disappointment is that the book with David Weber 1634 The Baltic War has not been published yet and this book makes reference to it. Bummer.... so we don't know how/when Rita, Tom, Melissa, etc. escaped from London 1634.

The book was in places difficult in the same way as 1634 Gallielo Affairs was but, again the characters starting arriving and reacting in their alotted ways and the fun/story began to really move. This is a wake up and think wow that really changes history.

I really like Eric Flint's books... of course if you like David Weber.... comments about 1635 or any of the books would be great.

So, I finished the book and of course finished Black Forest Scarf, and am working Cappucino scarf these are the yarns by Mystical-Creation-Yarns.

Anne McCaffrey and searching blogs

I have a thought that has been rambling around in my brain for the last few weeks. A short story written by Anne McCaffrey in the mid 80's (?) in which the heroine figures out the class assignment regarding old computer files. As I wander from blog to blog the memory of this short story sticks with me the problem is although I have a great deal of her books for some reasons I am missing this anthology. If you can remember the title of the story or book and tell me I would appreciate it great.

On to other stuff. Finished another mohair/wool sparkly shawl for the website. It is a dark red, and start a triangluar shawl in cotton and silk yarn in bright and happy colors. Then finish the dog sweater from a nice wool.

The only other item of note here is that it is cold in the am (54 degrees) which for september 18th in Northern Arizona that's cold. Husband is wearing his sweats.

Have a wonderful day

Traveling earth

Good Morning. Spent yesterday morning running into Kingman for groceries and mail, but prior to leaving I was emailing Astrid from Astrids Dutch Obsessions about life in general and she sent me a placemark for a google earth program. So of course I had to try it out. Well, I could send her a placemark in the general area of our house but, the satellite pictures in my area haven't been updated since 1994. But, before I knew they had not been updated I told her to look for the gazebo on the left. My husband built that entirely The stained glass roof and sides are protected with Lexan as we get wind gushes up to 75+ miles a hour. We have lost the leading edge of our roof 3 times. The program earth. google is really cool I "flew" around earth a bit trying to find things I have read about and friends homes.

Finished the commissioned vest yesterday. I am very pleased with it and will post some pictures as soon as it is light out. Have a wonderful day where ever you are....Karen Austin ScarvesForAllReasons

More yarns to knit

Started receiving the new silk/wool yarns from Mystical-creation-yarns this week and can't wait to start listing them on site. She has a great 76% cotton 25% rayon yarn that makes a long dense color scarf. Faith and Orient are the ones from the cotton rayon mix. Plus the newest colors in the silk/wool; Waylon is pictured isn't it incredible I think it looks like embers, sonnet, cappacino, turtle, victoria, camo just to name a few arriving over the next few days.

I have also been asked several times to knit a small dog sweater with matching scarf, beanie, and mittens for owner/walker. If you are interested please leave me a note so, that I can tell if there is real interest or not.

Danielle's site is www.mystical-creation-yarns.com
Astrids's site is www.astridsdutchobsessions.com

Anyways, back to work on the Turtle scarf.

Hand winding yarn

September 8th, what a beautiful day outside. We have had thunderstorms every evening this week and some rain which we very badly needed. The down side is that the Satellite dish for TV got fried. Not the Satellite dish for the computer, just the TV one. So yesterday, my husband spent time trying to figure out what was wrong, while I ran into town for the mail (town is 30 miles one way). I received some new yarns from Mystical Creation Yarns, so last night watching a DVD I wound the yarn into balls to work from while knitting.

What is so beautiful here in Northern Arizona is the wide variety of winged life that flies. We had a large black and yellow butterfly flitting over the yard and I heard hawks so got up to see them and saw three Red Tail Hawks in the sky. Sometimes we see military helicopters, and other people made planes but, mostly lovely birds.

I am almost done with a commissioned piece a long vest in Woodlands by Prism Yarns, then I can start on the new colors from Mystrical Creation Yarns, and Trendsetter Dune Shawls.

Have a wonderful weekend enjoy life

Kim Opperman serves as designated distribution center and forward boxes of socks filled with toiletry itmes and other goodies onto Keystone Soldiers, who have graciously accepted our request for shipping our boxes. If you can not knit a pair of socks we also have room for volunteers, and donors to cover the costs of shipping, yarns and needles for the knitters. I found several of yarn dyers that I have purchased sock yarn from this weekend. Two Waters who created the Gryffindor yarn is bluedyehands.blogspot.com and she has pictures of Korea, and a lovely lace shawl she just finished knitting. Fearless Fibers who supplied the beautiful brick colored sock yarn that I made up in an eyelet pattern also has a blog: fearlessfibers.blogspot.com and she has a lovely eyelet pattern knee sock in greens she just finished. What is so nice is "meeting" people I have only purchased items from, and it makes our world better.
